Stainless Steel Cabinet: Why Carte Kitchen Uses 304 Stainless Steel for Wet Areas Like the Cabinet Under the Sink
Not every part of a kitchen faces the same level of risk.
Some zones deal mostly with storage and appearance. But some zones — especially the cabinet under the sink — live in a very different reality:
water splashes,
damp cleaning tools,
pipe condensation,
minor leakage,
wet bottles,
and long-term moisture exposure.
This is why Carte Kitchen often recommends 304 stainless steel for the cabinet under the sink as part of our Hybrid Solution strategy.
It is not because the whole kitchen must be stainless steel. It is because the sink zone has a different job from the rest of the kitchen.
This is exactly what Hybrid Solution means: the right material in the right place.
Our Hybrid Solution approach allows us to combine materials more intelligently. For example, while much of the kitchen may be designed using carefully selected board and surface systems, wet areas like the cabinet under the sink can be upgraded to 304 stainless steel for better protection against long-term moisture exposure.
When people hear “stainless steel,” they often think only about commercial kitchens or an industrial look. But in reality, stainless steel can be a very practical material in selected kitchen zones — especially where water exposure is much higher than normal.
Grade 304 stainless steel is widely used because it offers good all-purpose corrosion resistance. It is often treated as the standard premium stainless grade for general interior and kitchen-related use. Outokumpu identifies Core 304/4301 as an all-purpose product with good corrosion resistance, and the Nickel Institute’s design guide also places 304 among the commonly used corrosion-resistant stainless grades.
For wet areas such as the cabinet under the sink, 304 stainless steel is one of the most reliable solutions because it does not swell like wood-based materials and offers strong corrosion resistance for everyday kitchen use.
