Petaling Jaya | March 6, 2026 — EKG M&E Sdn Bhd has successfully executed a complex repair and calibration project for the HVAC infrastructure at Hong Leong Bank (HLB) in Petaling Jaya. The intervention addressed both mechanical structural failures and electronic communication errors to restore the system to peak reliability.
Scope of Work: Coil & Air Flow Sensor Replacement, Compressor Welding, Pressure Leak Testing, and System Dehydration
The cooling unit at the HLB PJ facility was suffering from intermittent "short-cycling" and inaccurate temperature readings. Upon investigation, our team discovered a twofold issue: faulty sensors were providing incorrect data to the controller, and a hairline fracture in the compressor housing was causing a gradual loss of refrigerant. To prevent a total system lockout in this critical banking environment, a comprehensive mechanical and electronic overhaul was required.
Our technicians implemented a multi-stage restoration process to ensure the unit met factory-standard operating parameters:
Electronic Sensor Calibration: We replaced the faulty Coil Sensor and Air Flow Sensor. These components are the "eyes" of the system; by installing new, high-sensitivity sensors, the unit can now accurately modulate cooling based on real-time evaporator temperatures and air velocity.
Structural Compressor Welding: To address the refrigerant loss, our specialized welders performed precision brazing on the compressor assembly. This reinforced the structural integrity of the copper-to-steel joints, effectively sealing the system against future leaks.
Nitrogen Pressure Leak Test: Following the welding, the system was pressurized with dry nitrogen and monitored over a set period. This rigorous "Stress Test" ensures that the brazed joints can withstand high-pressure operating conditions without failure.
Vacuum & R22 Recharge: Once the system's "sealed" status was confirmed, we performed a deep vacuum to remove all atmospheric moisture and non-condensables. The circuit was then precision-charged with R22 gas, calibrated to the specific weight required for optimal heat exchange.
Smart System Response: With new sensors, the HVAC unit now responds accurately to the bank’s cooling demands, eliminating the energy waste caused by "sensor drift."
Leak-Free Reliability: The compressor welding and subsequent pressure testing provide HLB with long-term peace of mind, preventing the environmental and financial costs of recurring gas top-ups.
Extended Asset Life: By addressing the root cause (vibration/leaks) and the secondary symptoms (sensor failure), EKG has avoided the need for a costly full-unit replacement.
