The Jaecoo J5 has officially been launched in Malaysia, marking the brand’s entry into the competitive B-segment SUV market. Positioned as a more compact model within the Jaecoo lineup, the J5 is designed to appeal to buyers looking for a modern SUV with premium-inspired design, advanced technology and practical features for daily driving.
In Malaysia, the model is offered with a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 147 PS and 210 Nm of torque. Power is delivered to the front wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Despite using a CVT instead of a dual-clutch gearbox like some related models, the SUV is capable of completing the 0–100 km/h sprint in 10.2 seconds and reaching a top speed of 175 km/h, with a claimed fuel consumption of 7.5 litres per 100 km.
Inside, the Jaecoo J5 features a minimalist and technology-focused cabin. The centrepiece is a 13.2-inch portrait infotainment touchscreen that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, complemented by dual phone holders, one of which includes a 50-watt wireless charging pad. The cabin also includes an eight-inch LCD instrument display, a waterfall-style centre console and a clean horizontal dashboard design that emphasizes simplicity and functionality.
The interior also highlights pet-friendly materials certified by TÜV, with upholstery that is anti-bacterial, scratch-resistant and designed with low volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Owners can also opt for additional accessories tailored for pets, including specialised nets, mats and carriers, making the vehicle suitable for drivers who frequently travel with animals.
Practicality is supported by a 480-litre boot space, which can be expanded to 1,284 litres when the rear seats are folded, allowing the SUV to accommodate larger cargo when needed.
In terms of comfort and equipment, the Jaecoo J5 comes well equipped with ventilated power-adjustable front seats, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, multi-colour ambient lighting, a panoramic glass roof, acoustic double-glazed front windows and a powered tailgate. An eight-speaker audio system and a 360-degree camera with transparent view function are also included to enhance convenience and driving visibility.
Safety is another key highlight, with the SUV featuring a suite of Level 2 advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). These include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane centring assist, autonomous emergency braking, evasive steering assist, blind spot monitoring with collision prevention, rear cross-traffic alert with auto braking and door opening warning. The vehicle also introduces curve speed assist, helping the car adjust speed more safely when approaching bends.
With its blend of modern technology, comfort features and advanced safety systems, the Jaecoo J5 represents another step in the brand’s expansion in Malaysia as it continues to grow its SUV lineup.
