Reverberation Time (RT60), Sound Insulation, and Insertion Loss Measurement

Reverberation Time (RT60), Sound Insulation, and Insertion Loss Measurement

Accurate acoustic measurement is the foundation of effective noise control.
At ISTIQ Noise Control, we provide professional on-site acoustic measurements in accordance with internationally recognised standards, using certified, industry-grade instruments to ensure reliable and defensible results.

Our measurement services are commonly used in industrial facilities, commercial buildings, mechanical rooms, studios, auditoriums, offices, and plant rooms, where sound quality, noise control, or regulatory compliance is critical.

Why Acoustic Measurement Matters
Noise problems cannot be solved by assumptions alone. Without proper measurement:
  • Soundproofing solutions may be over- or under-designed
  • Noise complaints may persist even after costly modifications
  • Compliance with standards or project specifications cannot be verified
  • Design decisions become guesswork rather than engineering

Professional measurement allows you to:

  • Understand the actual acoustic condition
  • Identify the root cause of noise issues
  • Verify performance before and after improvements
  • Make informed decisions with confidence

Our Acoustic Measurement Services

1. Reverberation Time Measurement (RT60)
Reverberation Time (RT60)
measures how long sound lingers in a room after the source has stopped. In simple terms, it tells us how “echoey” or “dead” a space is.

RT60 has a direct impact on:

  • Speech clarity and intelligibility
  • Listening comfort
  • Perceived loudness
  • Overall acoustic quality of a room

Different spaces require different RT60 ranges.
For example, a meeting room, classroom, factory, or auditorium should not sound the same — and lower RT60 is not always better.

Our RT60 measurements help determine whether a space is acoustically suitable for its intended use and whether acoustic treatment is required.

2. Sound Insulation Measurement (ISO 16283)

Sound insulation testing evaluates how effectively sound is blocked from transmitting between rooms or spaces — for example, from a machinery room into an office, or from one unit to another.
We conduct sound insulation measurements in accordance with
ISO 16283, which is the internationally accepted standard for field measurements of airborne and impact sound insulation.

This test is crucial for assessing the performance of walls, floors, doors, or enclosures, verifying soundproofing effectiveness, investigating noise complaints between adjacent spaces, and confirming compliance with project or regulatory requirements. A higher sound insulation value indicates better soundproofing performance.

3. Insertion Loss Measurement (ISO 11691)
Insertion Loss measurement evaluates how effective a noise control device is
after it has been installed, such as:
- Duct Silencers, Acoustic Louvers, and Exhaust Silencers

Measured in accordance with ISO 11691, this test compares noise levels before and after the silencer or device is installed, providing a clear indication of its actual performance in real operating conditions.
This is especially important in industrial and mechanical systems where calculated performance alone may not reflect site realities.

Professional Equipment & Instrumentation
To ensure accuracy and credibility, ISTIQ uses profesional-grade acoustic instrument, including:

  • Brüel & Kjær (B&K) Type 2250 & 2270 Sound Level Meters
  • B&K OmniPower Type 4292-L Omnidirectional Loudspeaker
  • Power Amplifiers suitable for ISO-compliant testing
  • SVANTEK SV 971A Class 1 Sound Level Meter
  • All measurements are carried out using calibrated equipment and accepted test methodologies.
