A major update has emerged on the much-anticipated Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, a key infrastructure project poised to reshape cross-border commuting and property demand in Johor. The official RTS fare structure is now expected to be announced in the second half of 2026 ahead of the system’s operational launch later this year.
According to recent reports, the new RTS Link fare could range between S$5 and S$7 per trip, which equates to approximately RM15.50 to RM21.70 per one-way journey between Johor Bahru and Singapore.
Even though the proposed fares may be higher than typical domestic public transport costs in Malaysia, they are still expected to be more cost-effective than commuting by car across the Causeway, especially considering Singapore’s rising Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) fees that will take effect in 2027.
The RTS Link will connect Bukit Chagar (Johor Bahru) to Woodlands North (Singapore) in just minutes, offering a fast, seamless cross-border commute with integrated immigration clearance at the Bukit Chagar ICQ Complex — significantly reducing travel time and congestion compared to the Causeway drive.
This development is expected to have a positive impact on property demand in zones near RTS & CIQ, as Singapore workers and commuters increasingly seek convenient, affordable housing options in Johor Bahru with quick access to Singapore. Properties near the RTS corridor continue to be highly sought after for both rental income and long-term capital appreciation.
The final ticket pricing and potential commuter pass options are set to be officially gazetted in the second half of 2026, shortly before the RTS Link begins operations and officially replaces the existing KTM Shuttle Tebrau service.
