Proton Closes 2025 Strong with Higher Sales, Market Share and Record Exports
Proton ended 2025 on a positive note, recording solid sales growth and strong market performance despite a challenging automotive market. For the full year, the national carmaker achieved 157,976 units in total sales, supported by 14,655 units delivered in December 2025. This result represents a 3.3% increase compared to 2024. Alongside higher sales, Proton’s market share improved to 19.4%, an increase of 0.7% year-on-year. This gain came even as Malaysia’s total industry volume (TIV) declined slightly by 0.2% to 814,949 units. At the product level, the Proton Saga remained the backbone of Proton’s lineup. The model recorded 74,013 units sold in 2025, marking its best annual performance since 2011, including the post-Geely era. December sales were particularly strong, with 7,975 units delivered, reflecting a 15.1% year-on-year growth. SUV models also played a key role in Proton’s success. The facelifted Proton X50 continued to dominate its segment, holding its title as Malaysia’s best-selling B-segment SUV for the fifth consecutive year. The model achieved 28,057 units sold in 2025, an 18.6% increase compared to 2024. Moving up the range, the Proton X70 has now accumulated 112,836 total registrations since its launch. Meanwhile, the Proton S70 and Proton X90 emerged as top sellers in the C-segment sedan and D-segment SUV categories, respectively. Proton’s move into electrification also delivered results. The Proton e.MAS 7 EV became the best-selling electric vehicle in Malaysia for five straight months, from June to October. Beyond domestic sales, Proton achieved a record-breaking year in exports. Through Proton International Corporation Sdn Bhd (PICSB), the company recorded over 6,000 overseas registrations in 2025, representing a 26% increase compared to 2024 and the highest export volume since 2012. Key export contributors included the Proton Saga with 3,109 units, the Proton X50 with 1,747 units, and the e.MAS 7.
