The family of the late owner donated a 1985 Proton Saga to Proton COE.
Almost 40 years ago, Malaysia welcomed its first car, the famous Proton Saga, which debuted in 1985. To mark its 39th anniversary this year, Proton has placed one of the earliest 1985 Proton Saga models on display at its Centre of Excellence(COE) headquarters.
As shared on Proton's LinkedIn page, the car is in excellent condition, maintaining all its original parts, including its well-preserved blue paint. However, this classic Saga has more to offer than just its good looks.
Even more important is that the 1985 Proton Saga was given to Proton by the family of its first owner, Ariffin Hew. Ariffin was one of the earliest Malaysians to own this model when it launched in July 1985, and he kept the car until he passed away.
As a devoted car enthusiast, Ariffin diligently preserved and maintained his Saga in pristine condition, evident in the car's enduring quality even after many years since its purchase.
To recognize the Proton Saga's significance to the brand and local automotive history, Ariffin's family decided to donate the car back to Proton. This ensures that future generations can continue to appreciate the Saga's legacy. The car was handed over to Proton's deputy CEO, Roslan Abdullah, by Rosni Rahmat, Ariffin Hew's wife, alongside their son-in-law, Imran Abdullah.
“We are deeply honoured by Ariffin Hew’s generous donation. The 1985 Proton Saga is a significant part of our history, and its display at our headquarters will provide a unique opportunity for visitors to connect with our legacy. This exhibition celebrates not just the car but the spirit of innovation and progress that Proton has gone through,” said Roslan Abdullah, deputy CEO of Proton.
If you want to see Ariffin's original 1985 Proton Saga, you can visit Proton COE in Subang Jaya. It will be on display there for a month as part of a special exhibition about the Proton Saga.
