Johor–Singapore RTS Link Nears Completion, Fares Expected at RM15–RM22 Per Trip

The Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link is progressing steadily towards completion, with one-way fares expected to range between S$5 and S$7 (approximately RM15 to RM22).

Authorities said the official fare structure will be announced in the second half of 2026, ahead of the system’s planned start of operations by the end of 2026. While fares may be higher than local urban rail services, the RTS Link is expected to be a more economical alternative to driving into Singapore, particularly with Singapore’s Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) fee set to rise to S$50 per day from 2027.

The 4km cross-border rail line will connect Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru directly to Woodlands North MRT station in Singapore, reducing travel time to around five minutes and offering a faster option than the often-congested Johor Causeway.

Once operational, the RTS Link will deploy fully automated, driverless trains capable of carrying up to 10,000 passengers per hour per direction. To further improve efficiency, the Bukit Chagar Integrated Immigration, Customs and Quarantine (ICQ) Complex will feature 100 immigration e-gate lanes to speed up border clearance.

The RTS Link will replace the KTM Shuttle Tebrau service and will be operated by RTS Operations, a joint venture between Prasarana Malaysia Bhd and SMRT Corporation. Fares will be set based on commercial principles, with no cross-border subsidies or discounted monthly passes expected.

The project has cleared a major milestone following the passing of the Johor Bahru–Singapore RTS Link Bill 2026 in Malaysia’s Dewan Rakyat. With construction on schedule, the RTS Link is expected to significantly improve cross-border connectivity and ease daily travel between Johor Bahru and Singapore.
