PASIR PUTEH (Feb 3): Yayasan Pembangunan Ekonomi Islam Malaysia (YAPEIM) has invested RM16.44 million over the past four years to support housing needs nationwide, completing and undertaking hundreds of home construction and repair projects aimed at improving living conditions for lower-income families.
According to YAPEIM director-general Zabidi Nasan, a total of 356 housing-related projects were implemented between 2020 and December 2025. Of these, 260 projects have been completed, while the remaining 96 are currently under various stages of construction.
In Kelantan alone, YAPEIM carried out 49 projects involving both new home construction and refurbishment works, supported by an allocation of RM2.4 million. These included 28 newly built houses and 21 homes that underwent major repairs.
Zabidi said the housing initiatives go beyond physical shelter, reflecting the government’s broader MADANI agenda to foster social inclusion and ensure vulnerable communities are not left behind. He was speaking at the Sinar Lestari YAPEIM handover ceremony, where a newly constructed home valued at RM85,284 was officially handed over to a recipient with the support of strategic partner Cagamas Berhad.
During 2025, YAPEIM completed or refurbished 80 houses nationwide and is targeting a 10% increase in housing-related assistance this year, in line with rising construction costs and growing demand for affordable housing solutions.
Since its establishment, the foundation has played a significant role in community development. From 1985 to November 2025, YAPEIM distributed more than RM725 million to approximately 10.1 million beneficiaries through programmes focused on economic empowerment, education, and social development.
Beyond housing assistance, YAPEIM also operates Ar Rahnu YAPEIM, a Shariah-compliant micro-financing scheme designed to support small traders and entrepreneurs. The programme currently operates 201 branches nationwide, providing short-term financing to improve cash flow and business sustainability.
Between 2000 and November 2025, Ar Rahnu YAPEIM extended financing totalling RM14.2 million to nearly one million individuals, backed by collateral valued at RM28.6 billion.
From a broader development perspective, initiatives like these support long-term urban and economic resilience, complementing ongoing demand for structured growth in key markets such as commercial property in KL, industrial land in Selangor, factories in Puchong, industrial property in the Subang area, and emerging mixed-use and office space developments in locations like Bukit Jalil, where social infrastructure and inclusive growth remain critical to sustainable township planning.
