Proton Unveils e.MAS 5 EV at Malaysia Autoshow 2025
Proton has officially unveiled its second fully electric vehicle, the e.MAS 5, at the Malaysia Autoshow 2025. Positioned as a more affordable alternative to the previously launched e.MAS 7 SUV, the e.MAS 5 represents a major step forward in Proton’s mission to democratize electric mobility in Malaysia. Built on the Geely Geome Xingyuan platform, the e.MAS 5 is described as a smaller sibling to the e.MAS 7, suggesting a more compact and city-friendly profile. Designed to cater to urban lifestyles, the e.MAS 5 combines a modern aesthetic with everyday practicality and advanced technology, offering a spacious and comfortable interior despite its reduced footprint. Proton is expected to launch the e.MAS 5 officially in the fourth quarter of 2025, with pricing estimated to start around RM80,000. This makes it one of the most affordable electric vehicles available in Malaysia, positioning it as a serious contender in the entry-level EV market, especially against models like the BYD Dolphin and the MG4. To complement the launch, Proton's EV subsidiary, Pro-Net, has rolled out the “Electrify Your Life” campaign — a nationwide initiative to raise awareness about electric mobility. Running from 8 May to 31 July 2025, the campaign invites Malaysians to participate in creative slogan contests, test drive events, and nationwide roadshows. Participants stand a chance to win a brand-new Proton e.MAS 5. The campaign will make stops in major cities including Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Melaka, Johor Bahru, and Shah Alam, giving the public hands-on experience with the new EV and a deeper understanding of Proton’s future direction in clean mobility. With the e.MAS 5, Proton is clearly setting its sights on capturing the hearts of a new generation of drivers. Offering a balance of affordability, range, technology, and practicality, the e.MAS 5 could be the tipping point for mainstream EV adoption in Malaysia.
