Dr Victor Porcupine Bezoar Invited to Participate in Public Health Talk and Exhibition Booth

Understanding the Value of Porcupine Bezoar from a Clinical Perspective

On 7 March 2026, a public health talk titled "Why Is Porcupine Bezoar So Expensive — Yet People Still Choose to Use It?" was successfully held at AIM Healthcare TCM & Acupuncture Center, Subang Jaya.
The event brought together members of the public, caregivers, and individuals interested in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to explore the topic of porcupine bezoar from a balanced clinical and scientific perspective.
Dr Victor Porcupine Bezoar was invited to participate in the event alongside AIM Healthcare, supporting public education and awareness about traditional medicinal materials and their place in modern health understanding.

A Clinical Perspective by Dr. Kong Why Hong

The highlight of the event was a keynote presentation delivered by Dr. Kong Why Hong, an experienced integrative medicine practitioner with more than 20 years of clinical experience.
Dr Kong holds both a PhD in Traditional Chinese Medicine and a Medical Doctor qualification, enabling him to approach healthcare through both traditional and modern medical frameworks.
During the talk, Dr Kong addressed one of the most frequently asked questions surrounding porcupine bezoar:
Why is porcupine bezoar so rare and expensive, yet still widely sought after?
Drawing from both clinical experience and traditional medical theory, the session explored several key topics, including:
  • The natural formation process and rarity of porcupine bezoar
  • Why authentic bezoar products can command high prices
  • The historical role of bezoars in traditional medical systems
  • Situations where traditional materials may be considered in health management
  • How consumers can identify authentic porcupine bezoar and avoid counterfeit products

Rather than focusing on promotion, the session emphasised evidence-based discussion and rational understanding, encouraging participants to approach traditional remedies with an informed perspective.

As Dr Kong explained during the talk:
"As a doctor trained in both Traditional Chinese Medicine and modern medicine, my responsibility is to share evidence-based insights that help people make informed health decisions."

Public Engagement and Knowledge Sharing

The talk attracted a full audience and was followed by an interactive Q&A session, where participants raised questions about traditional medicine, health management, and consumer awareness.
The event also included:
  • Health knowledge exchange with medical professionals
  • Networking and refreshments for attendees
  • A lucky draw where 10 participants received the book "TCM Long-Term Care Handbook" and 2 participants received the Kopi Luwak drip bags sponsored by Exotica Kopi Luwak.
  • Complimentary tasting of Exotica Kopi Luwak specialty civet coffee

The atmosphere throughout the session was lively and engaging, reflecting the strong interest among the public in gaining accurate and reliable information about traditional medicinal materials.

Promoting Rational Health Awareness

The organisers highlighted that the topic of porcupine bezoar was chosen because the market today contains significant misinformation and counterfeit products, which can lead to confusion among consumers.
By providing a professional platform for discussion, the event aimed to help the public:
  • Understand the historical and medical context of traditional materials
  • Learn how to identify genuine products
  • Avoid unnecessary spending on unsuitable or counterfeit items
  • Make more informed decisions about their health and wellness choices
Such educational initiatives play an important role in bridging traditional knowledge and modern health awareness.

Continuing Public Health Education

Events like this reflect a growing effort among healthcare professionals and health organisations to strengthen community health education through open discussions and accessible information.
Through collaborations with medical practitioners and healthcare partners, Dr Victor Porcupine Bezoar continues to support initiatives that encourage a balanced and responsible understanding of traditional medicinal materials.
More public health events and educational programmes are expected to follow in the future.
