Epson has confirmed plans to construct a major new production facility for amorphous alloy powders at its Kita-Inter Plant No. 2 in Hachinohe, Aomori, Japan. This strategic investment is designed to support growing global demand from cutting-edge technology markets like artificial intelligence (AI) and data center infrastructure π.
The project is being led by Epson Atmix Corporation, a subsidiary of Seiko Epson Corporation (TSE: 6724), and represents an investment of approximately 4 billion yen into expanded production capacity. Construction is scheduled to begin in September 2026, with operations expected to start in January 2028.
Once complete, the new production facility will increase Epson Atmix’s amorphous alloy powder capacity from about 6,000 tonnes per year to around 8,000 tonnes per year. This expansion aims to ensure a more stable supply of high-performance materials critical for advanced applications while strengthening business continuity planning (BCP).
Amorphous alloy powders are essential in many high-tech components due to their excellent high-frequency characteristics, high magnetic flux density, and low energy loss, making them highly valuable for power and voltage control systems used in smartphones, electric vehicles, computers, and other next-generation devices π.
