Puspakom and MIROS Strengthen Collaboration on Road and Vehicle Safety

Puspakom Sdn Bhd and the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) held a joint programme on January 12 to strengthen collaboration in road safety and vehicle inspection services.

The engagement focused on data-driven safety assessments, governance of vehicle inspection services, and potential research initiatives for the future.

The session was attended by Puspakom chief executive officer Mahmood Razak Bahman, MIROS chairman Professor Dr Wong Shaw Voon, MIROS director-general Associate Professor Ir Ts Dr Siti Zaharah Ishak, along with senior management from both organisations.

Discussions centred on the sharing of technical expertise and research findings aimed at improving vehicle inspection standards and enhancing public confidence.

Siti Zaharah said effective road safety outcomes depend on close cooperation between service operators and research institutions. She added that MIROS will contribute technical input, data analysis and risk assessments to help strengthen inspection standards nationwide.

Both parties also explored potential collaboration in research and development (R&D), public awareness studies, and joint safety programmes, subject to regulatory approval.
Puspakom operates under key performance indicators (KPI) set by the Ministry of Transport, covering technical inspections, equipment calibration, ISO certification, service efficiency, customer satisfaction, and safety standards.

Mahmood said stronger governance and independent oversight are essential as the mobility landscape continues to evolve, adding that collaboration with MIROS supports Puspakom’s commitment to accountability and service excellence.
