When the invitation came to experience Portfolio Hair Studio’s MetaMorph campaign, I knew I was in for something special—but little did I realise just how extraordinary the transformation would be.
Let’s set the scene: my hair was in a bit of a pickle. It had been five months since my last highlight and tone, and the once-cool hues had faded into a brassy, lacklustre mess. My roots were showing, and my fine, thin, frizzy, and wavy hair wasn’t doing me any favours. Basically, I needed a hair rescue—and that’s exactly what I got.
MetaMorph is more than just a hair collection; it’s a celebration of change, personality, and self-expression. Inspired by the bold experimentation of today’s younger generation, the campaign captures a beautiful balance between edgy individuality and the timeless elegance of the luxury Prêt-à-Porter world.
The 2025 collection’s colour palette draws from nature itself—think warm taupe, russet, terracotta, tobacco brown, and Tuscan tan. These earthy, mineral-inspired shades are all about vitality, understated luxury, and most importantly, healthy, happy hair.
From the moment I walked into Portfolio Hair Studio, I knew I was in expert hands. The studio is the brainchild of four seasoned professionals—William Wong (Creative Director and makeover maestro), Edwin Chong (Precision Cutting guru), Junn Ng (Colour specialist and Men’s Barber), and Teng Wong (Artistic Technical Director and colour wizard). Together, they bring over two decades of international experience, countless accolades, and an undeniable passion for the craft.
Portfolio Hair Studio was born in 2023, the result of four friends reuniting after pandemic-related closures forced them to board up their individual businesses. The synergy between them is palpable—it’s a space built on resilience, creativity, and shared dreams.
My colour specialist, Junn, took one look at my brass-ridden strands and knew exactly what to do. Drawing inspiration from the Luxe Lights technique, he chose a warm taupe tone from the L’Oréal Professionnel colour portfolio—perfectly designed to soften the brassiness and reintroduce that cool, lived-in lift.
The Luxe Lights approach is all about subtle sophistication. By focusing delicate highlights around the hairline, Junn added a sun-kissed glow that looked both polished and natural. Think quiet luxury with a healthy dose of glam.
To top it off, the L’Oréal Professionnel Metal DX system was used to detoxify and nourish my scalp and strands. This miracle treatment clears out metal particles from tap water (a little-known culprit behind dull and brittle hair), rebalances pH, and leaves hair visibly healthier. I could literally feel my scalp breathe again.
Now that my colour was revived, it was time for the cut. William, the creative mastermind, worked his magic with a style inspired by The Halo—a cut designed to flatter the face, boost volume, and encourage movement. For someone with fine and frizzy hair, the result was astonishing.
By adding soft, sweeping layers and face-framing dimensions, William managed to give my hair a much-needed lift—without sacrificing length or shape. The result? Effortlessly chic, low-maintenance, and full of bounce.
My post-MetaMorph hair felt like a complete revival. The brassy tones were replaced with a luxe, earthy taupe that shimmered under the light. My face looked brighter, my features more defined, and my confidence? Sky-high.
