Jaecoo Malaysia has teased the upcoming J5 EV, suggesting that the electric SUV could be launched in Malaysia soon. The Jaecoo J5 EV was introduced in Indonesia and Thailand last year. It comes with a 58.9 kWh battery that can travel up to 461 km (NEDC) or around 400 km (WLTP) on a full charge.
The electric SUV supports DC fast charging up to 130 kW, allowing the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in just 28 minutes. It also features Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology, which can power electrical devices and appliances with up to 3.3 kW of output.
Power comes from a front-mounted electric motor producing 211 PS and 288 Nm of torque. This allows the J5 EV to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 7.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 175 km/h.
In terms of size, the J5 EV measures 4,380 mm long, 1,860 mm wide, and 1,650 mm tall, making it similar in size to popular SUVs such as the Honda HR-V, Proton X50, and Chery Tiggo Cross.
Practicality is another highlight, with a 35-litre front storage compartment (frunk) and a rear cargo space of 480 litres, which can be expanded to 1,284 litres when the rear seats are folded down.
Overseas models come with a long list of features, including 18-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic roof, powered tailgate, leather-style seats, ventilated front seats, a 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, wireless charging, and telematics connectivity.
Safety is also a key focus, with the J5 EV equipped with 17 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) functions, including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keep Assist, and Blind Spot Monitoring.
In Indonesia, the Jaecoo J5 EV is priced between RM63,000 and RM75,000, while in Thailand it ranges from RM71,000 to RM88,000. Malaysian pricing has yet to be announced, but the model is expected to offer strong value in the growing electric SUV segment.
