EXAL Malaysia Strengthens Community Engagement Through Kuching Outreach Initiative

EXAL Malaysia is actively integrating social responsibility into its property development strategy, demonstrating that modern developers are no longer focused solely on building projects but also on uplifting surrounding communities. In this initiative, the company collaborated with Majlis Perbandaran Padawan (MPP) to support 31 underprivileged families in Kuching through the distribution of essential food supplies worth approximately RM15,000.

The outreach programme, held from March 17 to 19, specifically targeted B40 households and single mothers across multiple villages, including Kampung Pinggan Jaya, Kampung Tanjong Bako, Kampung Paya MEBI, Kampung Sinar Budi Baru, Kampung Sejijak, Kampung Stapok, Kampung Sri Arjuna, and Kampung Haji Baki. This highlights how developers can play a direct role in addressing local socioeconomic challenges while strengthening their presence in emerging markets like Sarawak.

Leadership involvement was also a key takeaway. The programme was spearheaded by Albert Ko alongside MPP chairman Tan Kai and local councillors, showing that meaningful ESG initiatives often require strong collaboration between private developers and public authorities.

Another important insight is the growing importance of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) practices in Malaysia’s property sector. Guidelines by Bursa Malaysia emphasize community engagement as a driver of long-term value, and EXAL Malaysia’s initiative reflects how developers are aligning with these expectations to enhance stakeholder trust and corporate reputation.

From a business perspective, this outreach also supports EXAL Malaysia’s expansion strategy in Sarawak. As the company undertakes new developments such as SÓL Estate—its first project outside Australia—it is positioning itself not just as a developer, but as a community-focused brand. Backed by a strong track record in Perth, including projects like Melvista on Broadway and Eden on Riseley, and a development pipeline exceeding RM3 billion, EXAL is leveraging both social impact and international experience to grow its footprint in Malaysia.

Overall, this initiative reinforces the idea that successful property development today goes beyond physical infrastructure—it involves building sustainable, inclusive communities while aligning with ESG-driven industry standards.
