CIDB Introduces Digital Construction Management Platform to Accelerate Industry Digitalisation

The Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) has unveiled a new Digital Construction Management (DCM) platform aimed at accelerating digital transformation within Malaysia’s construction sector and strengthening the industry’s global competitiveness.

The platform was officially introduced during CIDB’s 25th Silver Jubilee celebration in Kuala Lumpur, with the launch officiated by Yusuf Abd Wahab, chairman of CIDB Malaysia. The system was developed by CIDB Digital Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary formed to expand the organisation’s digital technology initiatives for the construction ecosystem.

According to Yusuf, the new platform represents an important milestone in modernising Malaysia’s construction sector by integrating digital solutions that can improve project management, operational transparency, and productivity.

He emphasised that technology adoption is no longer optional for the industry.

“Digitalisation is essential if Malaysia’s construction sector is to remain competitive in an increasingly technology-driven global economy,” he said during the launch ceremony.

Rebranding to Strengthen Digital Leadership

The event also marked the rebranding of CIDB E-Construct Services Sdn Bhd to CIDB Digital Sdn Bhd, reflecting the company’s expanded role in developing and managing digital solutions for the construction industry.

Among those present at the ceremony were Suhaimi Mansor, senior general manager of CIDB Malaysia, and Nazir Muhamad No, chief executive officer of CIDB Digital Sdn Bhd, along with representatives from across the construction sector.

BIM Adoption Gains Momentum

During a media briefing following the launch, Yusuf highlighted that CIDB has been actively promoting Building Information Modelling (BIM) through the myBIM Malaysia initiative.

A dedicated myBIM Centre in Kuala Lumpur has been established, supported by 12 satellite centres nationwide, to help industry players understand and adopt BIM technology more effectively.

The initiative supports the government’s long-term development strategies, including the Construction Action Plan 2026–2030 and the 13th Malaysia Plan, both of which place strong emphasis on digital transformation to enhance productivity and governance within the sector.

Locally Developed Digital Platform

Nazir explained that the DCM platform is a fully integrated construction management system developed through local innovation, allowing professionals from multiple disciplines—including architecture, structural engineering, and mechanical services—to collaborate more efficiently.

The platform leverages BIM integration and other digital technologies to improve project planning, execution, and monitoring throughout the construction lifecycle.

Unlike traditional project management software that often requires high-performance computer hardware, the web-based DCM system enables users to access project data conveniently through mobile devices such as smartphones.

Proven Track Record in Major Projects

According to Nazir, the technology has already demonstrated its effectiveness. The system has been utilised in more than 60 large-scale construction projects across five countries, with a combined project value exceeding US$8 billion.

The increasing adoption of digital construction tools is expected to benefit the broader property and real estate ecosystem, particularly in rapidly developing urban markets such as Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. These areas continue to see strong demand for commercial property in KL, industrial land in Selangor, and modern developments including office space in Bukit Jalil, factories in Puchong, and industrial property in the Subang area.

As digital solutions become more embedded in the construction process, industry stakeholders expect improvements in project efficiency, cost management, and development timelines—factors that can ultimately support the continued growth of Malaysia’s industrial and commercial property sectors.
