Perodua Confirms Local Production of Ativa Hybrid for Malaysian Market

Perodua has officially confirmed the arrival of the Ativa Hybrid for the Malaysian market, bringing the brand one step closer to its electrification future. Unlike the earlier 2022 pilot programme that was offered only through a subscription model, the upcoming hybrid SUV will be available for direct purchase and will also be locally assembled (CKD) in Rawang.

The Ativa Hybrid will feature Daihatsu’s e-Smart hybrid technology, a system that delivers an EV-like driving feel by using the electric motor to power the wheels, while the 1.2-litre petrol engine primarily acts as a generator to recharge the battery. The hybrid setup produces 106 PS and 170 Nm, giving it stronger performance than the current turbocharged Ativa.

Fuel efficiency is expected to be one of the model’s strongest selling points. Perodua previously stated that the Ativa Hybrid can achieve up to 31.3 km/l under Malaysian driving conditions, making it substantially more economical than the standard petrol version.

To support the project, Perodua also received more than RM37 million in funding from Japan, further strengthening the development of hybrid technology in Malaysia. Although official pricing and launch details have yet to be announced, the Ativa Hybrid is expected to be positioned above the current Ativa lineup, which ranges from RM62,500 to RM73,400.

With rising fuel prices and growing interest in electrified vehicles, the upcoming Ativa Hybrid could become one of Perodua’s most important models in the coming years. More details, including pricing and launch timing, are expected to be announced soon.
