Toyota Harrier 2.5 HEV Debuts in Malaysia with Premium Tech & Hybrid Efficiency

UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) has officially introduced the Toyota Harrier XU80 2.5 HEV to the Malaysian market, positioning the premium SUV as a hybrid-only offering with a strong focus on efficiency, technology, and safety.

The Toyota Harrier 2.5 HEV is priced from RM289,000, on-the-road without insurance. With this launch, UMWT has discontinued the previous 2.0-litre variant, making the hybrid model the sole Harrier variant currently on sale in Malaysia.

To reinforce ownership confidence, the new Harrier comes with a five-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty, complemented by an eight-year unlimited mileage hybrid components warranty. This extended coverage includes key hybrid parts such as the hybrid battery, inverter, and power management ECU.

Under the bonnet, the Harrier 2.5 HEV is powered by a 2.5-litre A25A-FXS Dynamic Force hybrid engine. The petrol engine produces 178 PS and 221 Nm, while the electric motor adds 120 PS and 202 Nm, resulting in a combined system output of 218 PS, driving the front wheels. UMWT claims an impressive fuel consumption figure of 4.7 litres per 100 km, highlighting the efficiency advantage of the hybrid setup.

In terms of ride and handling, the SUV retains its proven mechanical configuration with MacPherson struts at the front and a double-wishbone suspension at the rear. Rolling stock consists of 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 225/60R18 tyres, balancing comfort and road presence.

Exterior highlights include automatic bi-LED projector headlamps, LED daytime running lights and foglamps, a hands-free tailgate with kick sensor, and a fixed panoramic sunroof, reinforcing the Harrier’s premium positioning.

Inside, the cabin is equipped with an eight-inch infotainment display supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto. The driver benefits from a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and a 10.5-inch head-up display, while comfort is enhanced with leather upholstery, ventilated and heated front seats, a 12-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory, and a four-way power-adjustable front passenger seat. Added conveniences include a Qi wireless charger, five USB-C ports, and a digital rear-view mirror.

Safety is a major highlight, with the Harrier 2.5 HEV receiving the full Toyota Safety Sense suite. This includes pre-collision system, lane tracing assist, lane departure alert, adaptive cruise control, adaptive high beam, and road sign assist. Additional features such as blind spot monitoring with rear cross traffic alert, panoramic view monitor, front and rear parking support brake, and seven airbags further strengthen its safety credentials. The SUV also comes with ISOFIX rear seat anchors, front and rear digital video recorders, and a vehicle telematics system.

For colour options, Malaysian buyers can choose from Platinum White Pearl Mica, Precious Black, and Grey Metallic, with the first two colours carrying a RM800 premium.

Overall, the 2026 Toyota Harrier 2.5 HEV marks a clear shift towards electrified mobility in Toyota’s premium SUV lineup, offering hybrid efficiency, high equipment levels, and comprehensive safety, albeit at a price point approaching the RM300,000 mark.
