PETALING JAYA (June 25): The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) has allocated RM216.44 million to Johor under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13), Rolling Plan 1 (RP1) 2026, to strengthen housing development, public infrastructure and community wellbeing.
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming announced the allocation during his two-day working visit to Johor under the Sentuhan Kasih KPKT 4.0 programme. The funds were officially handed over to Iskandar Puteri City Council’s director of valuation and property management, Dr Mohamed Ali Mohamed Abu Backer, representing the Johor state government, during a visit to Flat Taman Ungku Tun Aminah.
The ministry said the allocation reflects the government’s commitment to improving access to quality housing, enhancing public amenities and promoting more sustainable and liveable communities across the state.
A significant portion of the funding will be channelled into public housing programmes, including Rumah Malaysia (Disewa), the People’s Housing Programme (PPR), People’s Residency Programme (PRR), Madani Inclusive Housing (PIM), Housing Maintenance Programme (PPP), the Malaysia Housing Maintenance Fund (TPPM) and Rumah Mesra Rakyat (RMR).
Beyond housing, the allocation will also support upgrades to community infrastructure such as markets, Madani stalls, drainage systems, public toilets, recreational parks, fire stations and general maintenance of housing areas to improve residents’ comfort and safety.
Additional funding has been set aside for solid waste management projects, landfill closure works, public landscaping, and urban and rural planning initiatives aimed at improving environmental sustainability and resilience.
Community-focused programmes will also continue, including urban home repair assistance, the Non-Muslim Houses of Worship Maintenance Initiative (RIBI), and new village development projects designed to improve living standards and strengthen social cohesion.
As part of the visit, Nga inspected several projects across Johor Bahru, Iskandar Puteri, Kulai, Kluang and Batu Pahat, covering public housing, markets, parks, places of worship and local infrastructure.
He said KPKT will continue collaborating closely with the Johor state government and local authorities to ensure all projects are implemented efficiently, transparently and deliver meaningful benefits to residents.
What I learned from this:
This allocation highlights how Malaysia’s federal housing strategy is not limited to building homes, but also includes a wider ecosystem of infrastructure upgrades, community facilities, and environmental management. It also shows the role of RMK-13 planning in distributing funds across states based on development priorities. Johor’s allocation reflects a focus on integrated urban and rural improvement, combining housing programmes with essential public services like drainage, waste management, and recreational spaces to improve overall liveability.
