Johor Pushes for Faster Rollout of e-ART Transport System

JOHOR BAHRU — Johor is calling for the accelerated implementation of the proposed Elevated Autonomous Rapid Transit (e-ART) system as the state prepares for increased commuter traffic ahead of the Johor Bahru–Singapore RTS Link operations.

Caretaker Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said the e-ART project is a key component of Johor’s long-term public transport strategy and will serve as an important feeder network connecting commuters to the RTS Link.

The proposed system is expected to help disperse passenger traffic across Johor Bahru and reduce congestion by improving connectivity between major residential, commercial and transport hubs. State leaders have stressed the importance of having supporting transport infrastructure in place before the RTS Link begins operations.

According to projections, the RTS Link could carry around 10,000 passengers per hour during peak periods, increasing the need for efficient last-mile connectivity within Johor Bahru. The e-ART system has been identified as one of the solutions to support future commuter demand and urban mobility in the city.
