Congratulations and welcome to the Historical City mums club! πŸŽ‰

Melaka is famous as a "Medical Tourism" hub. We have top-tier private hospitals like Mahkota Medical Centre, Putra Specialist, and Pantai, where even patients from Indonesia flock to.

Because of this, many Melaka mums think: "I have company insurance/medical card and I plan to deliver at Mahkota. Do I really need to go to the government clinic (KK) for a Red Book?"

Our honest advice: YES, absolutely! It is your ultimate safety net.

  • Hospital Melaka (GH) is the Final Defense: While private hospitals are comfortable, if a critical emergency occurs (e.g., severe postpartum hemorrhage or extreme premature birth), private hospitals often transfer patients to GH Melaka because it has the most complete specialist facilities.
  • The "Weekend Jam" Factor: We all know Melaka traffic is crazy on weekends and holidays (Klebang to Bandar Hilir is a parking lot). If you live in these areas, having a Red Book registered at your nearest KK ensures the ambulance sends you to the right place immediately without paperwork delays.
  • Free Vaccines: With a Red Book, your baby's vaccination schedule is fully covered by the government for free.

Step 1: When is the Best Time to Go?

  • Golden Period: 8 weeks - 12 weeks of pregnancy.
  • Note: Clinics in Melaka Tengah District are very busy. Please plan your visit early.

Step 2: Document Checklist

Melaka is divided into three main districts. Please check your Utility Bill (Bill Api/Air) to see where you belong:

  1. Mother's MyKad (IC): Original + Copy.
  2. Husband's MyKad (IC): Original + Copy.
  3. Marriage Certificate: Original + Copy.
  4. Utility Bill (Bill Api/Air): Crucial!
    • Residents of Melaka Raya, Malim, Bukit Baru, Semabok usually go to KK Peringgit (The busiest).
    • Residents of Cheng, Krubong, Paya Rumput usually go to KK Cheng.
    • Residents of Ayer Keroh, Bukit Katil usually go to KK Ayer Keroh.
    • Residents of Alor Gajah or Jasin go to their respective district clinics.
  5. Ultrasound Scan: Photos from your private clinic.
  6. Black Pen: For filling up forms.

⚠️ Crowd Alert:
KK Peringgit is the main clinic for Melaka Tengah. It is extremely crowded.
Advice: Parking is limited. It's best to get a family member to drop you off. If you live on the border of Cheng or Ayer Keroh, try to register at KK Cheng or KK Ayer Keroh for a slightly less chaotic experience.
