Is the tabletop round or square?

A centre-column base is often considered for individual round or square tables because it may allow chairs to be positioned around several sides.

However, the selected base still needs to be compatible with the tabletop dimensions and weight.

Is the tabletop long or rectangular?

Longer tabletops may require a different support configuration, such as multiple bases, H-shaped legs or a rectangular frame.

Do not assume that one centre base will support every rectangular tabletop.

Will customers sit on every side?

The table-leg position affects legroom. A base that occupies too much space under the table may interfere with knees, feet and chair placement.

Create the seating layout before selecting the table base.

Is the floor area limited?

Check the floor footprint of the base. A wide floor plate may affect walkways or make it difficult to position tables close together.
