A centre-column base is often considered for individual round or square tables because it may allow chairs to be positioned around several sides.
However, the selected base still needs to be compatible with the tabletop dimensions and weight.
Longer tabletops may require a different support configuration, such as multiple bases, H-shaped legs or a rectangular frame.
Do not assume that one centre base will support every rectangular tabletop.
The table-leg position affects legroom. A base that occupies too much space under the table may interfere with knees, feet and chair placement.
Create the seating layout before selecting the table base.
