1. Measure the entrance before choosing a door

Start with the opening, not the design.

We recommend asking your own renovation contractor to perform the site measurement. Your contractor understands the planned wall work, cement hacking and finished floor level, so they should confirm the opening before the door is ordered.

Measure the height and width of the wall opening. You should also check the frame depth, floor level and the space around the door. A nearby wall, gate, cabinet, light switch or shoe rack may affect how the new door can be installed and opened.

If you plan to make the entrance larger, confirm the maximum wall opening with a qualified contractor before ordering the door. Cement hacking, wall work and door installation should be planned together so that everyone is working from the same final measurement.

Before choosing a size, record:

• opening height and width;
• frame-to-frame measurement;
• frame depth;
• finished floor level;
• nearby walls, gates, furniture and switches; and
• whether any cement hacking or repair work is needed.

2. Choose the AP or T series frame

The frame affects both the appearance of the entrance and the wall opening needed for installation. We offer two frame styles:

Because the T series frame is wider, its wall opening normally needs an additional 2 inches. This is why the frame should be selected before the contractor completes the entrance opening.

Our double-layer door provides more safety because there are two physical door layers. Each panel is 70mm thick. It can suit homeowners who want the additional barrier and have enough entrance space for both doors to open properly.

Layer count is still only one part of the decision. Compare the frame, lock system, hinges, grille, installation and ease of use for the exact model.

4. Compare the grille design and material—not only the pattern

The grille is one of the most visible parts of a security door. It affects the look of your entrance, but appearance should not be the only deciding factor.

Laser-cut designs are popular because they can create many patterns, from simple geometric lines to floral or cultural designs. However, two grilles that look similar may use different materials, thicknesses and finishes.

• Stainless-steel grille: 3 mm thick and supplied without powder coating.
