Nearly 173,000 Companies Registered Under Malaysia’s Diesel Subsidy System
A total of 172,955 companies, covering 464,797 vehicles, have been registered under Malaysia’s Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS) as of July 18, according to Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.
The minister said the figures include registrations from Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan, following the expansion of the targeted diesel subsidy programme to the three regions. So far, 28,127 companies involving 68,669 vehicles have signed up there.
Among the registered companies, 18,770 businesses with 51,679 vehicles belong to the consumer goods land transport sector. Another 7,241 companies, operating 13,557 company-owned vehicles such as jeeps and pick-up trucks, have also joined the programme. Meanwhile, 2,116 companies with 3,433 vehicles are registered under the public land transport sector.
Armizan said the steady rise in registrations shows positive progress in rolling out the SKDS nationwide, particularly in East Malaysia. He added that companies whose applications have been approved must now apply for a fleet card from participating fuel companies in order to purchase subsidised diesel.
The SKDS programme currently covers 23 categories of commercial goods transport vehicles, including cargo trucks, refrigerated lorries and tankers. The initiative is designed to ensure diesel subsidies reach eligible commercial operators while improving the efficiency and transparency of the subsidy distribution system.
