Maintenance and Servicing of Vacuum Pumps

1. Keep the pump clean and prevent foreign matter from entering it.
2. Maintain the proper oil level. Do not mix vacuum pump oil with standard engine oil; replace the oil promptly if it becomes contaminated.
3. If the gas being evacuated contains excessive moisture or other volatile substances during operation—thereby affecting the ultimate vacuum—consider changing the oil. When changing the oil, run the pump for a few minutes to thin the oil before draining the dirty oil; while draining, slowly pour a small amount of clean vacuum pump oil through the inlet to flush the pump chamber.
4. If the vacuum pump’s noise increases or it suddenly seizes up, immediately cut off the power supply and inspect the unit. If a three-phase motor emits a humming sound but the vacuum pump does not operate, also cut off the power immediately and inspect the system; consider the possibility of single-phasing (loss of a phase) and check for loose wiring or connections.
5. Disassembly of this pump series:
✓ Drain the oil;
✓ Loosen the intake flange screws and remove the intake pipe;
✓ Loosen the gas ballast valve flange screws (if equipped) and remove the gas ballast valve;
✓ Remove the oil reservoir;
✓ Remove the check valve cotter pin and pull out the check valve vane;
✓ Remove the hex socket screws connecting the support to the pump, loosen the pump coupling set screws, and withdraw the pump body assembly;
✓ Loosen the pump cover screws, carefully remove the pump cover, and withdraw the high- and low-pressure rotors and vanes;
✓ Clean all components in preparation for reassembly;
6. Assembly sequence for this series of pumps:
(1) Fit the springs onto the vanes and insert them into the rotor slots; then install the high-stage rotor, followed by the high-stage pump cover, pins, screws, and key. Rotate the assembly by hand; there should be no binding or noticeable unevenness in resistance.
(2) Install the low-stage rotor, following the same procedure used for the high-stage rotor in step (1).
(3) Install the check valve assembly and adjust the position of the check valve head relative to the oil port surface; the lift height should be 1.2 mm. When closed, the check valve head must seal the oil port tightly to prevent oil backflow.
(4) Reinstall the exhaust valve plate;
(5) Reinstall the pump body, key, and coupling onto the support;
(6) Install the oil tank, and reinstall the gas ballast valve (if equipped) and the intake pipe.https://www.btlasfilters.com/showproducts/productid/6459849/cid/599121/agilent-9499201-vacuum-pump-filter-element/
