Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia has given Malaysians a first look at the all-new Jaecoo J5 EV at the Oh My Meow! Expo 2026, taking place from July 9 to 12. This marks the local debut of the brand’s first fully electric vehicle.
Replacing the petrol model’s 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, the J5 EV is powered by a front-mounted electric motor producing 211 hp (155 kW) and 288 Nm of torque. Energy comes from a 58.9 kWh CATL LFP battery, offering a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 402 km.
While full charging specifications for the Malaysian market have yet to be revealed, Omoda Jaecoo confirmed the SUV can charge from 30% to 80% in just 28 minutes using a DC fast charger. The J5 EV also comes with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, allowing it to power external electrical devices.
On the outside, the electric version maintains the same dimensions and overall design as its petrol counterpart but features a redesigned front end. The traditional grille has been replaced by a distinctive perforated panel, complemented by a subtle "BEV" badge. It also comes equipped with an active grille shutter, panoramic sunroof, and powered tailgate.
Practicality is another highlight, with a 35-litre front trunk (frunk), a 480-litre rear cargo space, and 35 storage compartments spread throughout the cabin. Inside, the layout remains largely similar to the petrol model but introduces blue contrast stitching. The upholstery is expected to retain the same pet-friendly, antibacterial, scratch-resistant, and TÜV-certified material found in the ICE version.
Technology features include a 13.2-inch portrait touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, 540-degree surround-view camera, and 19 advanced driver assistance (ADAS) functions.
Omoda Jaecoo Malaysia has yet to announce official pricing for the J5 EV. However, with its first public appearance now underway, the electric SUV is expected to make its official Malaysian launch in the near future. Stay tuned for more updates.
