KUALA LUMPUR – Tower Real Estate Investment Trust (KL) has announced key leadership changes at its management company, GLM REIT Management Sdn Bhd, including the appointment of a new chief executive officer and a new board member, as part of efforts to strengthen governance and leadership capability.
The REIT confirmed the appointment of Douglas Richard Fyvie Crichton as chief executive officer with immediate effect.
Crichton, a UK national aged 54, brings more than 25 years of experience in the real estate sector across Southeast Asia. He has previously held senior roles in Low Yat Management Services Sdn Bhd and property consultancy firm Savills (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.
He is a chartered surveyor with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and holds a bachelor’s degree in valuation and real estate management from the University of the West of England, Bristol, as well as an MBA in construction and real estate from the University of Reading.
In a separate appointment, Tower REIT named Wong Shao Ling as a non-independent and non-executive director.
Wong is currently the general counsel of HL Management Co Sdn Bhd, which sits under Hong Leong Company (Malaysia) Bhd, the parent group of Hong Leong Bank Bhd.
She has more than 20 years of legal experience and previously served in senior positions at Khazanah Nasional Bhd before joining HL Management in 2022.
Following the announcements, Tower REIT units closed unchanged at 30 sen, valuing the trust at approximately RM147.3 million.
The latest board changes highlight Tower REIT’s focus on strengthening leadership depth with professionals who have both regional real estate expertise and institutional governance experience. The appointment of a CEO with extensive Southeast Asian property experience suggests a continued emphasis on operational and portfolio management efficiency.
Another key takeaway is the importance of cross-sector expertise in REIT governance. The inclusion of a senior legal professional with experience in sovereign wealth fund management and corporate legal advisory indicates a focus on compliance, risk management and institutional-grade oversight.
Overall, the leadership updates reflect a strategy of reinforcing management capability to support long-term stability and performance in a competitive REIT environment.
