Malaysia Prepares 10-Year Passport Option Under New Fee Structure
🛂 Malaysia’s Immigration Department says it is ready to implement passport validity of up to 10 years once the government announces the official start date. Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the department is prepared to carry out the change under the Fees (Passports and Visas) (Amendment) Order 2026, which has already been published in the Government Gazette. Until the new option begins, the department will continue issuing five-year passports as usual.
💼 The gazetted structure sets the fee for a new Malaysian passport with validity of up to 10 years at RM350, with implementation scheduled for this year. Malaysians aged 60 and above will pay RM175, while disabled persons aged 18 and above who are registered under the Persons with Disabilities Act 2008 will be eligible for a free passport. This gives travellers a longer-validity choice while keeping discounted access for seniors and fee exemptions for eligible disabled applicants.
✈️ The update is practical for families, frequent travellers and businesses because longer passport validity can reduce renewal frequency, planning disruption and last-minute document issues before overseas trips. The Gazette also outlines replacement fees for damaged or lost passports, with different rates for citizens aged 13 to 59, senior citizens, disabled persons and Immigration personnel. For now, Malaysians still pay RM200 for a five-year passport and RM100 for senior citizens, until the government confirms the rollout date for the 10-year option. 📌
