In a move to ease the travel burden for Malaysians during the upcoming Chinese New Year festivities, the government has officially approved a 50% toll discount across major highways. The initiative, which is expected to cost the government approximately RM19.5 million in compensation to highway concessionaires, was finalized during yesterday’s Cabinet meeting.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi emphasized that this decision aligns with the MADANI Government’s commitment to the well-being of all Malaysians, fostering unity across diverse races and religions.

Key Details of the Toll Discount:

  • Effective Dates: Starts at 12:01 AM on February 14 (Saturday) and ends at 11:59 PM on February 15 (Sunday).

  • Eligible Vehicles: * Class 1 (Private Vehicles) at all toll plazas nationwide.

    • Class 2 Vehicles specifically at the Penang Bridge.

  • Exclusions: The discount does not apply to international border toll plazas:

    • Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) – North-South Expressway (Johor-Singapore checkpoint).

    • Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza – Malaysia-Singapore Second Link (LINKEDUA).

Strategic Travel Planning

The selection of mid-February dates aims to manage traffic flow more effectively and optimize the logistics of Rest and Service Areas (RSA), ensuring a smoother journey for those returning to their hometowns or traveling ahead of the upcoming Ramadan season.

Minister Nanta Linggi urged motorists to utilize the MyPLUS-TTA and TuJu Highway Navigation apps to receive recommended travel times and real-time traffic updates.

"We encourage all road users to plan their journeys meticulously, adhere to speed limits, and prioritize safety to ensure a joyous festive season for everyone."
