PNB Merdeka Ventures Appoints New CEO to Lead Merdeka 118 Precinct Development

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 29): PNB Merdeka Ventures Sdn Bhd, the developer behind the world’s second-tallest skyscraper, has appointed Datuk Izwan Hasli Mohd Ibrahim as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective 1 January 2026.

Izwan Hasli will guide the next phase of the Merdeka 118 precinct, focusing on enhancing the 118 Mall, The View at 118 observation deck, the Merdeka Textile Museum, and other upcoming attractions, PNB Merdeka Ventures said in a statement on Monday.

“His key priorities include driving operational excellence, unlocking asset value, and ensuring Merdeka 118 becomes a fully integrated and vibrant precinct,” the company added.

PNB Merdeka Ventures, a subsidiary of Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB), is responsible for the development of Merdeka 118, a 118-storey mega-skyscraper second only to the Burj Khalifa. The company also holds ownership and custodianship of nearby landmarks, including Stadium Merdeka and Stadium Negara.

Izwan Hasli succeeds Datuk Tengku Ab Aziz Tengku Mahmud, who has been at the helm of the Merdeka 118 project since its inception in 2010, when it was initially known as Warisan Merdeka.

Previously, Izwan Hasli served as CEO of Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd, the master developer of Putrajaya, and as executive director of KLCC Urusharta Sdn Bhd, overseeing management of iconic assets such as the Petronas Twin Towers and the wider KLCC precinct.

He said in the statement, “2026 will be a defining year with the debut of major attractions that will bring the precinct to life.”

The Merdeka 118 precinct is a mixed-use development featuring premium Grade A office space, the Park Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, the 118 Mall retail podium, The View at 118 observation deck, and two residential towers under the Merdeka Residences brand.
