Proton Launches All-New 2025 eMAS 5 — Malaysia’s Most Affordable Electric Vehicle
After months of teasers and spy shots, Proton has officially launched the all-new 2025 Proton eMAS 5 (stylised as e.MAS 5) — the national carmaker’s second fully-electric (EV) model and its most affordable electric car to date. Priced from RM59,800 on-the-road without insurance, the eMAS 5 becomes the first EV in Malaysia priced below RM100,000, marking a major milestone in the country’s EV market. The Proton eMAS 5 is available in two variants — Prime (RM59,800) and Premium (RM72,800). As part of its launch promotion running until 31 December 2025, Proton is offering an exclusive rebate of RM3,000, bringing prices down to RM56,800 for the Prime and RM69,800 for the Premium. Initially, all units will be fully imported (CBU) from China, but local assembly (CKD) will begin at Proton’s new EV plant in Tanjung Malim by the end of the year. Power and Range The eMAS 5 Prime is powered by a rear-mounted electric motor producing 79 hp (58 kW) and 130 Nm, paired with a 30.12 kWh lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery that offers a WLTP range of 225 km. The Premium variant gets a more powerful 116 hp (85 kW) motor with 150 Nm and a larger 40.16 kWh LFP battery, extending range to 325 km (WLTP). Both variants support 6.6 kW AC charging, while DC fast charging peaks at 53 kW for the Prime and 71 kW for the Premium. A 30–80% recharge takes just 21 minutes using a compatible DC charger. Design and Dimensions Sharing its platform with the Geely Xingyuan, the Proton eMAS 5 retains a stylish hatchback profile with a Proton roundel on the front and the PROTON wordmark on the tailgate. Measuring 4,135 mm long, 1,805 mm wide, and 1,580 mm tall, with a 2,650 mm wheelbase, the eMAS 5 is larger than the Proton Iriz and Perodua Myvi, offering more cabin space and practicality. Exterior Features On the outside, the Prime variant comes equipped with halogen headlights (with follow-me-home function), LED taillights, and 15-inch alloy wheels. The Premium variant upgrades to automatic LED headlights with intelligent high-beam control, a powered tailgate, and 16-inch alloy wheels, giving it a more premium appearance. Interior and Technology Inside, the eMAS 5 impresses with a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment display running on Proton’s Atlas Auto operating system, complete with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The system also supports Proton’s Bahasa Melayu voice assistant “Aisyah.” Drivers get an 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster and a traditional gear lever on the centre console. The cabin features leatherette upholstery, a Flint Grey interior, rear air-conditioning vents, and multiple USB ports. Storage is generous, with 32 compartments, a 70-litre front trunk (frunk), 20-litre space under the rear bench, and a 375-litre boot expandable to 1,320 litres. The Premium variant adds a two-tone white-and-blue interior, a six-speaker sound system, and a two-tone leatherette steering wheel for an extra touch of elegance. Safety and ADAS Safety remains a priority, with both variants offering six airbags, tyre pressure monitoring, reverse camera, and passive cruise control as standard. The Premium variant includes an extensive ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) suite featuring Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), and a 360° 3D camera system. Colours and Warranty The Proton eMAS 5 is offered in five colours: Moonstone White, Graphite Silver, Slate Grey, and two Premium-exclusive shades — Marble Cream and Quartz Rose. Every eMAS 5 comes with a six-year unlimited mileage vehicle warranty, eight-year / 160,000 km high-voltage battery and component warranty, and five years of unlimited internet data. Special Launch Packages To sweeten the deal, Proton is offering exclusive ownership packages worth up to RM8,000, including:
