Budi95 Subsidy Sees Strong Start With Millions Benefiting

The rollout of the Budi Madani RON95 fuel subsidy has recorded a strong response from Malaysians since its introduction at the end of September. According to the Ministry of Finance, close to three million motorists have already redeemed almost RM91 million worth of subsidised petrol within the first few days of the programme.

On the first day of availability to the general public, sales of RON95 petrol hit 21.8 million litres, valued at RM43.7 million by 7pm.

Under the scheme, eligible Malaysians enjoy a fixed price of RM1.99 per litre for up to 300 litres each month. For October, the unsubsidised rate of RM2.60 per litre will be maintained, giving drivers time to adjust to the new system before the price is floated in line with global oil market movements.

Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan emphasised that while unsubsidised prices will eventually fluctuate with the market, the capped rate for Budi95 users will remain unchanged, ensuring continued protection for eligible Malaysians.

The government expects this targeted subsidy to generate annual savings of RM2.5 billion to RM4 billion by restricting benefits to Malaysians with a MyKad and valid driving licence, while excluding foreigners and commercial vehicles.
