KUALA LUMPUR (July 8, 2026): Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has initiated the formal land acquisition process to resolve a long-standing issue involving a public access road in Jalan Taman Datuk Senu, Sentul, which was found to have been built on privately owned land.
Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Fadlun Mak Ujud said investigations revealed that although the road has been used by the public for many years, no official land acquisition had ever been carried out, leaving ownership of the land in private hands.
Land acquisition process underway
DBKL has submitted an application to the Department of the Director General of Lands and Mines (JKPTG) to commence the legal acquisition process.
According to the mayor, the matter cannot be resolved solely by DBKL as land acquisition must be carried out through the appropriate government procedures.
Discussions involving the relevant parties have been ongoing since February 2026 in an effort to reach a long-term solution.
Legal procedures to be completed
The acquisition process will involve several stages, including:
Approval from the relevant government authorities.
Gazettement of the land acquisition.
Valuation of the affected land.
Payment of compensation to the landowner.
Fadlun said the timeline will depend on the smooth implementation of the legal procedures and whether there are any objections to the compensation value determined by the Valuation Department.
If there are no delays, the issue is expected to be resolved within three to four months.
Appeal for cooperation
The mayor urged the affected landowner to remain patient while the legal process is being completed.
He noted that the road has served as an important public access route for many years and expressed hope that sufficient time would be given for the authorities to complete the acquisition process in accordance with the law.
Road closure sparked public concern
The issue gained widespread attention after the access road was closed and blocked, causing inconvenience to residents who rely on it as their primary daily route.
The incident attracted significant discussion on social media and highlighted the need for a permanent legal solution to balance private property rights with public infrastructure needs.
