Sunway Property has commenced major traffic improvement works at the Persiaran Kewajipan roundabout in Subang Jaya in collaboration with Majlis Bandaraya Subang Jaya, with the project targeted for completion by the end of 2026.
The Persiaran Kewajipan roundabout is one of the busiest traffic nodes in the Subang Jaya corridor, connecting key areas such as Bandar Sunway, Subang Jaya and USJ Taipan, while also serving as an important access route to the Federal Highway and the New Pantai Expressway (NPE). The area experiences heavy daily traffic from residents, students, office workers and visitors travelling to nearby healthcare and educational institutions.
From this development, I learned that smart traffic management solutions are becoming increasingly important in township planning, especially in mature urban areas facing growing congestion challenges. Instead of relying solely on road expansion, the project focuses on improving traffic flow efficiency through technology-driven and traffic-engineering solutions.
Key improvements under the project include the installation of three AI-powered smart traffic lights designed to regulate vehicle inflow into the roundabout and optimise traffic movement. Traffic routes will also be reconfigured, including redirecting vehicles from the SS15 direction towards Bandar Sunway through a U-turn near Sri Kuala Lumpur School. In addition, junction upgrades, U-turn enhancements and lane widening at the Bandar Sunway–USJ Taipan exit are expected to reduce bottlenecks and minimise traffic conflict points.
I also learned that the reconfiguration plans were based on detailed traffic studies conducted by specialists, showing the importance of data-driven infrastructure planning in modern township development. The project demonstrates how developers are increasingly working closely with local councils to address long-term mobility and urban connectivity issues.
According to Sunway Property CEO Chong Sau Min, infrastructure and connectivity are essential components in ensuring townships continue to grow sustainably and function efficiently over time.
To minimise inconvenience to road users, lane closures during construction will be carried out mainly during off-peak hours and overnight periods in accordance with MBSJ guidelines.
The Persiaran Kewajipan traffic upgrade forms part of broader connectivity enhancement initiatives across Bandar Sunway, Subang Jaya and the USJ corridor. Collectively, Sunway Property’s infrastructure improvement investments in the area are estimated to exceed RM100 million, reflecting the growing emphasis on integrated urban infrastructure to support expanding communities and economic activities.
