Johor Authorities Investigate Alleged Misuse of RON95 Fuel

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Johor has launched an investigation following a viral social media incident involving a vehicle allegedly filling RON95 petrol into plastic containers in large quantities at a petrol station near Skudai on 21 March 2026.

According to an official statement, authorities acted swiftly by conducting inspections at the station. The investigation included reviewing CCTV footage, transaction records, and purchase receipts to verify the incident. Initial findings revealed that there were two separate fuel transactions—one for the vehicle’s fuel tank and another involving petrol being filled into plastic containers stored in the car boot, exceeding the permitted limit set by the Supply Controller of Malaysia.

KPDN Johor confirmed that enforcement officers have since visited the petrol station to carry out further investigations and issued a warning to the station management to strictly comply with regulations and strengthen monitoring to prevent similar cases from recurring. Authorities are also working to identify and summon the vehicle owner for further investigation.

The case is being investigated under Subregulation 12A of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974 and the Control of Supplies Act 1961 (CSA 1961) for suspected violation of supply control directives.

If found guilty, penalties are severe. For individuals, fines can reach up to RM1,000,000 or imprisonment of up to 3 years, or both. Repeat offenders may face fines of up to RM3,000,000 or imprisonment of up to 5 years. For companies, fines may go up to RM2,000,000, and up to RM5,000,000 for subsequent offences.

KPDN Johor has also encouraged the public to report any suspicious activities involving controlled goods. Complaints can be submitted via WhatsApp (019-848 8000), the e-Aduan portal, the Call Centre (1-800-886-800), or through the Ez ADU KPDN mobile application.

Authorities reiterated their commitment to ensuring compliance with regulations and safeguarding the proper distribution of subsidised fuel such as RON95.
