What Is Stadia Tacheometry?
Stadia Tacheometry is a traditional surveying method used to determine horizontal distance and elevation indirectly by using a tacheometer (or Total Station/Theodolite with stadia hairs) and a stadia staff. It is widely used in topographic surveys, route surveys, construction, and engineering projects where fast distance measurement is required.
## How Does Stadia Tacheometry Work?
The surveyor observes the **Top (T)**, **Middle (M)** and **Bottom (B)** stadia readings on the staff.
The stadia intercept is calculated as:
**s = T − B**
The horizontal distance is then determined using:
**D = Ks + C**
Where:
- **K** = Multiplying Constant (normally 100)
- **C** = Additive Constant (normally 0)
- **s** = Stadia Intercept
