Waterproofing Surface Preparation Checklist
Before starting any waterproofing application, proper surface preparation is essential to ensure maximum adhesion and long-lasting performance.
1. Thorough Surface Cleaning
-
Remove all dirt, dust, algae, moss, grease, loose particles, and any existing contaminants.
-
Clean the surface using a high-pressure water jet or suitable cleaning equipment to achieve a sound and clean substrate.
2. Protect Surrounding Areas
-
Cover and protect adjacent walls, windows, doors, finishes, and other nearby surfaces from water, dust, and coating splashes.
-
Ensure proper drainage or temporary barriers are in place to prevent water from flowing into unwanted areas.
3. Inspect the Substrate
-
Check for cracks, hollow areas, loose concrete, damaged screed, or deteriorated surfaces.
-
Repair all defects before proceeding with the waterproofing application.
4. Ensure the Surface is in Suitable Condition
-
Confirm the substrate is structurally sound, clean, and free from standing water (unless otherwise required by the waterproofing system).
-
Moisture conditions should comply with the manufacturer's application requirements.
5. Prepare All Materials & Equipment
-
Verify that all waterproofing materials, primers, tools, and safety equipment are ready before commencing work.
-
Ensure materials are mixed and applied strictly according to the manufacturer's specifications.
