Eco World Foundation Contributes RM50,000 in Medical Equipment and Food Aid to Support Klang Families

PETALING JAYA (June 5): The Eco World Foundation has donated RM50,000 worth of medical equipment and food assistance to Charity Food Basket Society Klang (CFBSK), benefiting low-income families and patients in need across the Klang community.

The contribution includes five units of double-crank manual hospital beds and food rations for 150 vulnerable households over a three-month period.

The hospital beds will be kept at CFBSK’s centre and provided on loan to patients who are unable to afford medical equipment. The beds are designed to improve patient comfort and support home caregivers, particularly for elderly and critically ill individuals requiring long-term care.

According to CFBSK, approximately 30% of the hospital beds loaned out are returned after patients recover, while many are only returned after the patient has passed away, highlighting the critical role such equipment plays for families facing medical and financial challenges.

The food assistance programme will provide monthly food supplies worth RM100 per household, helping 150 families manage rising living costs over the next three months.

Eco World Foundation chairman Lee Lam Thye said the contribution reflects the foundation’s commitment to addressing broader community needs beyond its traditional focus on education.

He praised CFBSK’s volunteer-driven efforts, noting that many of its volunteers are retirees who dedicate their time to helping vulnerable families and patients within the Klang community.

Lee said the foundation believes that access to basic necessities such as food and proper medical care represents a fundamental dignity that should be available to everyone, and hopes the contribution will provide meaningful relief to recipients.

This initiative marks the first collaboration between the Eco World Foundation and CFBSK.

Established in 2002, Charity Food Basket Society Klang is a registered non-profit welfare organisation serving communities in Klang. The organisation distributes food aid on a monthly basis, lends medical equipment including wheelchairs and walking aids, and supports students through educational assistance and back-to-school programmes.

Recipients are identified through a verification process conducted jointly by CFBSK and local community representatives to ensure assistance reaches genuinely needy families. The organisation also relies heavily on public donations and community support to sustain its operations.

The donation handover ceremony was attended by Eco World Foundation trustees Mohd Radzi Sheikh Ahmad, Philip Mathews and Zahari Ishak, together with CFBSK founder and president Chew Song Kong and members of the organisation’s volunteer team.

Lee also called for greater corporate participation in corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, particularly as rising living costs continue to place pressure on lower-income households.

He emphasised that businesses have an important role to play in supporting community welfare programmes and that increased corporate involvement could help more vulnerable individuals and charitable organisations receive much-needed assistance.

Lee further noted that public awareness generated through media coverage can encourage wider support for charitable organisations, helping them attract additional resources and volunteers.

He added that proper verification processes remain essential to ensure aid is directed to genuine recipients, allowing charitable resources to be distributed fairly and effectively.
