Puspakom Reminds CBU Vehicle Owners To Check Mandatory VTA Label Before Inspection
Vehicle owners and importers of completely built-up (CBU) vehicles are being reminded to ensure that their vehicles carry the mandatory Vehicle Type Approval (VTA) label before attending a Puspakom inspection.
The reminder comes after a recently imported vehicle failed its Puspakom inspection due to the absence of the required VTA sticker, highlighting the importance of complying with Malaysia's vehicle approval regulations.
According to Puspakom, the VTA label has been a mandatory requirement enforced by JPJ since 2014. Additional inspection procedures for imported vehicles were later introduced in 2017 under Malaysia’s Vehicle Type Approval framework, which aligns with United Nations vehicle regulations.
The VTA label serves as an important verification tool, providing key technical and compliance information about a vehicle. Details displayed on the label include the manufacturer’s name, VTA certificate serial number, VIN, chassis number, vehicle weight information, and axle load ratings.
Puspakom explained that the label can be placed anywhere on the vehicle as long as it is clearly visible and easy to read during inspections.
Beyond regulatory compliance, the VTA label also helps authorities identify legally imported vehicles and prevent unauthorised or “half-cut” vehicles from entering the market. The standardised labelling system further supports road enforcement efforts by allowing authorities to verify vehicle approvals, permits, and tax-related requirements more efficiently.
Puspakom noted that vehicles equipped with the proper VTA label are likely to experience a smoother inspection process, reducing the risk of delays or inspection failures.
The company has urged importers, distributors, dealers, and vehicle owners to ensure that the mandatory labelling requirements are met before presenting a vehicle for inspection.
Puspakom CEO Mahmood Razak Bahman emphasised that proper vehicle labelling is essential for transparency, safety, and consumer confidence, while helping buyers identify compliant and legally approved vehicles.
