Nissan Serena e-Power (C28) Officially Launched in Malaysia – Priced from RM154,800

The Nissan Serena e-Power (C28) has officially been launched in Malaysia by Edaran Tan Chong Motor (ETCM), following its preview late last year. This sixth-generation Serena marks a significant step forward for the popular MPV nameplate, bringing a new electrified powertrain and enhanced comfort features tailored for family buyers.

The model is locally assembled (CKD) in Serendah, Selangor, making it the first e-Power model to be assembled in Malaysia. It is offered in five variants, with on-the-road prices (without insurance) as follows: X (RM154,800), X Plus (RM159,800), Highway Star (RM169,800), Premium Highway Star (RM174,800), and Shiro Premium Highway Star (RM179,800).

To mark the launch, ETCM is offering an introductory rebate of RM5,000, along with an accessories package worth RM8,000 for all variants except the base X.

The biggest highlight of the new Serena is its e-Power hybrid system. Unlike conventional hybrids, the 1.4-litre three-cylinder petrol engine does not drive the wheels directly. Instead, it acts purely as a generator to charge a 1.77 kWh lithium-ion battery, which then powers a 163 PS / 315 Nm electric motor that drives the front wheels.

This setup delivers an EV-like driving experience, offering instant torque, smoother acceleration and quieter operation. Drivers can choose between Eco, Standard and Sport modes, while the e-Pedal function enables one-pedal driving with stronger regenerative braking.

The C28 Serena also benefits from a redeveloped suspension setup, featuring a stabiliser that is 20% more rigid and increased suspension member rigidity. According to ETCM, these improvements result in a 23% reduction in steering corrections compared to the previous C27 model, enhancing stability and ride comfort.

Braking refinement has also been optimised to reduce body pitch during deceleration, with the aim of minimising motion sickness for passengers — a key consideration for family-oriented MPVs.

Inside, the Serena maintains its practical 2-2-3 seating configuration, offering space for seven occupants. The first and second rows feature “zero gravity-inspired” seats designed to improve posture and reduce fatigue during long journeys. Up to 13 seating configurations are possible, thanks to foldable third-row seats and a flexible cabin layout.

The higher variants come equipped with dual 12.3-inch displays for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with a 14-inch rear entertainment monitor. Top variants also feature hands-free powered sliding doors on both sides and a powered tailgate.

All variants are equipped with key safety systems such as Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning and Rear Cross Traffic Alert.

The Highway Star variants and above additionally receive ProPILOT semi-autonomous driving features, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Intelligent Lane Intervention and a 360-degree Around View Monitor.

The Serena e-Power comes with a five-year or 100,000 km vehicle warranty, while the e-Power components (motor, battery and energy management system) are covered for eight years or 160,000 km.

With local assembly, competitive pricing and a unique electrified system that delivers an EV-like driving experience without the need for external charging, the new Nissan Serena e-Power is set to strengthen its position in Malaysia’s growing family MPV segment.
