Rotary vane vacuum pumps for food packaging
The rotary vane vacuum pump is a leading vacuum pump for food packaging applications. It can operate with pressure control or at a constant speed, making it highly energy-efficient. The rotary vane vacuum pump can be used as a standalone vacuum pump in packaging machines or as a vacuum module in a central vacuum supply system to ensure the maintenance of a specified pumping speed. It can also precisely maintain the required vacuum level regardless of variations in packaging volume. With a variable speed drive, the vacuum pump offers a pumping speed range of 440 to 760 cubic meters per hour, reaching an ultimate pressure of 0.1 millibar. All operating data is permanently recorded and stored. This data can be accessed directly from the built-in display or transmitted via the Modbus TCP/IP client/server protocol. Furthermore, the vacuum pump can be controlled remotely via a computer. The rotary vane vacuum pump can operate in two modes. Users can select either constant speed mode or pressure control mode via the intuitive menu structure on the display screen. The most suitable operating mode depends on the type of packaging. If packaging smaller units with high cycle times and only a few seconds between vacuum cycles, it makes sense to keep the vacuum pump running continuously. The speed can be adjusted directly on the display screen to suit current needs without negatively impacting packaging quality or cycle time. This means the pumping speed can be maintained at a constant rate between 440 and 760 cubic meters per hour.
Speed control is a more suitable option when working within longer packaging cycles or when the vacuum pump operates in a central vacuum supply system. In this case, the vacuum pump maintains a pre-selected vacuum level regardless of variations in pumping speed. Once the desired vacuum level is reached, the rotary vane vacuum pump continues to operate at a minimum speed of 35 Hz, allowing it to respond to sudden increases in pumping speed demand by increasing its rotational speed. The vacuum pump can also be automatically switched on and off using Ecomode during prolonged periods of inactivity.
Due to its stable volume flow rate curve, this vacuum pump can still achieve 70% of its pumping speed at atmospheric pressure, even at a vacuum level of only 5 millibars. A fundamental advantage of rotary vane vacuum pumps is that power consumption decreases as the pressure drops. Rotary vane vacuum pumps consume the most power during restart until they reach a vacuum level of approximately 300 millibars. In the operating range between 10 millibars and 0.1 millibars of ultimate pressure, the vacuum pump consumes only 40% to 60% of its specified rated power. This feature makes the rotary vane vacuum pump the most powerful and efficient vacuum pump in its performance class. With two selectable operating modes and demand-driven power adjustment, the rotary vane vacuum pump saves even more energy.
The standard built-in PLC permanently records and stores all operating data. This not only enables complete and uninterrupted data logging but also provides functions such as displaying warnings and alarms. Using the self-explanatory menu structure on the display screen, operators can decide when to display these warnings and alarms and/or trigger a specific action. All data recorded by the PLC can be transmitted in analog or digital form to other PLCs, computers, or SMS control units, meaning the rotary vane vacuum pump offers complete connectivity.
