Successful Installation of Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) System for Sewage Treatment Plant at Shopping Mall

Project Overview

We have successfully completed the installation of a Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) system for the sewage treatment plant (STP) located within a shopping mall facility. This project was implemented to improve air quality, control hazardous gases, and enhance workplace safety while supporting environmental compliance requirements.

Project Background

Sewage treatment plants within commercial buildings can generate toxic and corrosive gases such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S) and ammonia. If not properly controlled, these emissions may cause odor nuisance, health risks, and environmental concerns. The installation of an effective LEV system supports compliance with requirements enforced by the Department of Environment (DOE) Malaysia.

Scope of Work

The project scope included site assessment, ventilation system design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of a complete LEV system. Corrosion-resistant ducting, high-efficiency exhaust fans, and strategically positioned extraction points were installed to ensure effective gas capture and discharge.

LEV System Design Features

The LEV system was designed to extract contaminated air directly at the source, minimizing the release of odorous and harmful gases into occupied or public areas. The system layout ensures continuous airflow and controlled exhaust, supporting compliance with environmental and occupational air quality requirements.

DOE Regulatory Considerations

The LEV system installation supports compliance with key environmental regulations and guidelines enforced by the Department of Environment (DOE) Malaysia, including:

  • Environmental Quality Act 1974
  • Environmental Quality (Clean Air) Regulations 2014
  • DOE requirements for odor and air pollutant control in sewage treatment facilities
  • Best practice measures to prevent air pollution and public nuisance

By effectively controlling gas emissions from the STP, the LEV system helps reduce environmental impact and supports regulatory inspections and reporting requirements.

Key Benefits
  • Effective control of odorous and hazardous gases
  • Improved indoor air quality for operators and maintenance staff
  • Reduced risk of environmental complaints and odor nuisance
  • Support for DOE and local authority compliance
  • Protection of equipment from corrosive gas exposure
Compliance and Safety

The system installation was carried out in accordance with applicable DOE environmental guidelines and good engineering practices. All materials and equipment used are suitable for corrosive sewage treatment environments, ensuring long-term operational reliability and safe working conditions.

Project Completion

The project was completed on schedule with successful testing and commissioning. The LEV system is now fully operational, providing effective gas extraction and odor control for the sewage treatment plant within the shopping mall.
