Proton Unveils the New Saga Facelift Ahead of ASEAN–China Event

Proton has officially unveiled the new Saga facelift ahead of the ASEAN–China Free Trade Area 3.0 Upgrade signing ceremony, marking a major update for its popular entry-level sedan. Shown in Ruby Red, the new Saga made its debut alongside the Proton eMas 5.

The latest Saga receives a significant exterior redesign, featuring an all-new front fascia with a full-width grille and Ethereal Bow chrome bar that connects to LED projector headlights with integrated DRLs—a first for the model. At the rear, it gains new full-width LED taillights with the Proton script and an i-GT badge, reflecting its updated powertrain. Despite the fresh look, the Saga retains its familiar shape and proportions.

Inside, the cabin has been completely revamped. The new horizontal dashboard design, pill-shaped air vents, and slimmer centre console give it a modern touch. The highlight is a dual widescreen setup combining a digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen, while a flat-bottom steering wheel from the X50 adds a sporty feel.

Powering the new Saga is a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine, replacing the old 1.3-litre CamPro unit. The new engine promises better performance and fuel efficiency. Transmission choices include a four-speed automatic for the Standard and Executive variants, and a CVT for the Premium—marking the first Saga without a manual option.

In terms of safety, the model introduces Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) via a front-mounted camera, while higher variants are expected to offer enhanced safety features, potentially including six airbags.

With its refreshed design, improved interior, and upgraded engine, the new Saga is set to strengthen Proton’s position in the compact sedan market. Official specifications and pricing will be announced soon.
