Property developer NCT Alliance Bhd is evaluating a potential collaboration with Guangzhou Great Power Energy & Technology Co Ltd to venture into battery energy storage system (BESS) projects in Malaysia, marking a possible expansion beyond its core real estate operations.
In a filing to Bursa Malaysia, NCT Alliance said its 99.34%-owned subsidiary, NCT Land Sdn Bhd, has entered into a memorandum of agreement with the China-based energy technology and battery manufacturer. The agreement sets the framework for further discussions on BESS applications, particularly for data centres and solar power facilities.
The proposed collaboration would allow NCT Alliance and its group companies to participate in a new business segment related to energy storage solutions, supporting infrastructure that is increasingly critical to high-power users such as data centres and industrial facilities. The memorandum is non-exclusive and non-binding, with details to be finalised pending further evaluation.
NCT Alliance is currently active in residential developments, smart industrial parks, and hospitality projects, including hotel operations in Genting Highlands. The group’s involvement in industrial developments positions it well to explore energy-related infrastructure that complements demand for industrial land in Selangor, where data centres, logistics hubs and advanced manufacturing facilities continue to expand.
Guangzhou Great Power Energy & Technology Co Ltd, which is listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, brings more than 20 years of experience in advanced battery technologies. The company specialises in energy storage solutions across industrial, commercial and consumer applications, according to NCT Alliance’s filing.
From a broader market perspective, the potential collaboration reflects growing convergence between real estate and energy infrastructure, particularly in Klang Valley locations where demand for commercial property in KL, office space in Bukit Jalil, factory developments in Puchong, and industrial property in the Subang area is increasingly driven by power reliability and sustainability requirements.
Shares in NCT Alliance closed half a sen lower, or 0.88%, at 56.5 sen, giving the group a market capitalisation of approximately RM1.2 billion.
