This study evaluates the effectiveness of therapeutic massage as a rehabilitation method for women working from home (WFH) who experience lower back and shoulder pain. A total of 30 female respondents aged between 30 and 45 participated in four treatment sessions over four weeks, using a combination of Swedish massage, deep tissue techniques, trigger point therapy, and passive stretching.
Pain levels were assessed using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), along with postural observation and semi-structured interviews. The findings showed a significant reduction in pain levels—from 7.8 to 3.2 for shoulder pain and from 7.5 to 2.8 for lower back pain. Participants also reported improved mobility, better sleep quality, and reduced physical and emotional stress.
The study demonstrates that therapeutic massage is an effective, safe, and practical rehabilitation approach for musculoskeletal issues related to working from home.
Working from home has become a modern lifestyle trend. While it offers flexibility, many women are experiencing increasing physical discomfort—especially in the lower back and shoulders.
These issues are often caused by poor ergonomics, prolonged sitting, and lack of movement. Over time, this can lead to chronic muscle tension, fatigue, sleep disturbances, and reduced quality of life.
The study involved 30 full-time WFH women suffering from chronic shoulder and lower back pain. Each participant underwent four weekly therapy sessions.
The treatment combined professional techniques aligned with NOSS standards, including Swedish massage for relaxation, deep tissue massage for muscle release, trigger point therapy for targeted tension, and passive stretching to improve flexibility.
Pain levels and physical changes were evaluated using VAS, posture observation, and participant feedback.
The results showed a clear and consistent reduction in pain levels after treatment. Shoulder pain decreased from 7.8 to 3.2, while lower back pain reduced from 7.5 to 2.8.
Beyond pain relief, participants experienced improved mobility, better comfort during daily activities, enhanced sleep quality, and reduced mental stress.
Therapeutic massage improves blood circulation, reduces muscle tension, and promotes nervous system relaxation. It directly addresses the root causes of WFH-related pain—poor posture and limited movement.
Importantly, it also offers a drug-free alternative for long-term pain management.
If you are experiencing back pain, shoulder tension, or fatigue from working at home, professional therapeutic massage can help.
