China is testing the world's largest single-capacity offshore wind turbine, a 26-megawatt unit, in Dongying City, east China's Shandong Province.
The turbine, located at the Dongying Wind Power Equipment Testing and Certification Innovation Base, is visible from a distance and dwarfs other turbines at the site. It was installed on August 29, 2025.
The unit is designed for offshore operations, but the test prototype is located onshore.
According to Dongfang Electric Corporation, the turbine's manufacturer, the product has a rotor diameter of 310 meters and blades measuring 153 meters in length. The structure stands nearly 200 meters tall, with a rotor sweep area of 77,000 square meters, and is fully designed and manufactured in China.

Yang Senlin, deputy director of the Wind Power Research and Design Institute at the company's wind power unit, told reporters that under an average annual wind speed of 10 meters per second, a single turbine can generate 100 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity per year, which is a significant contribution to the development of clean energy.
He also said that testing is progressing smoothly and the company plans to build similar turbines in the southern provinces of Guangdong and Fujian as early as 2026.
