2026 Proton X70 Launches in Malaysia From RM99,800

The 2026 Proton X70 has officially gone on sale in Malaysia, rolling out as a refinement-focused update rather than a full model refresh. Prices are listed from RM106,800 to RM119,800, but a limited RM7,000 launch rebate for the first 1,500 buyers brings the SUV into sharper value territory at RM99,800 for the Executive and RM112,800 for the Premium, valid for registrations by 31 March 2026.

Proton has also streamlined the X70 line-up, reducing it to just two variants — 1.5TD Executive and 1.5TD Premium — a move aimed at simplifying purchase decisions. Early customers further benefit from a Pro-Accessories package worth over RM700, bundled at no extra cost during the launch period.

Styling changes are deliberately subtle, with the removal of the TGDi badge on the front doors being the most noticeable visual update. The exterior colour palette remains familiar, while the Premium variant continues on 19-inch alloy wheels.

The headline improvement lies under the bonnet. The X70 now adopts Proton’s i-GT 1.5TD turbocharged engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, delivering 181 PS and 290 Nm. While outright output is unchanged, Proton says the focus is on smoother delivery and improved efficiency, with claimed fuel consumption reduced to 6.9 L/100 km, a 5.5% improvement over the previous model.

Further gains come from chassis and steering recalibration, aimed at improving ride comfort, reducing road noise, and enhancing stability in everyday driving. Proton also highlights lower engine NVH levels, reinforcing the X70’s comfort-oriented positioning.

Safety remains a strong selling point, particularly on the Premium variant, which features Level 2 ADAS with 13 driver-assist systems, including adaptive cruise control, lane centring, autonomous emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring functions. Standard safety equipment across the range includes six airbags, a 360-degree camera, tyre pressure monitoring, and walk-away auto lock.

Inside, the cabin carries over a familiar but modern layout, anchored by a 12.3-inch infotainment display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, voice command functionality, and connected services.

Overall, the 2026 Proton X70 represents a measured but meaningful update, prioritising efficiency, comfort, and ownership value over visual reinvention. With sub-RM100,000 launch pricing, it continues to strengthen its case as one of the most competitively priced mid-size SUVs in the Malaysian market.
