The ATAP Solar Programme is a green energy initiative that allows residential TNB users to install a solar photovoltaic (PV) system. The system prioritizes the use of solar energy for household consumption, reducing dependence on the grid and effectively lowering monthly electricity bills.
This makes solar energy more practical and cost-effective for Malaysian households.
During daytime, your home will first consume electricity generated by your solar PV system.
If your solar system produces more electricity than your household needs, the excess will be automatically exported to the TNB grid.
TNB will provide bill credits based on the exported energy, helping further reduce your monthly electricity expenses.
However, the exported energy is subject to a limitation known as MAQ (Maximum Allowable Quantity):
MAQ = System Capacity (kW) × 5 hours of sunlight × number of days in the month
Any excess export beyond MAQ will be forfeited. It cannot be carried forward or converted into cash.

The ATAP programme comes with a 10-year contract period. After the contract ends, users can still continue using their solar system, but exported electricity will no longer receive bill credits.
