Maintaining legacy control panels requires a proactive approach to component lifecycle management. Recently, the technical team at EKG M&E Sdn Bhd completed a critical protection upgrade involving the replacement of an aging MEC GTH-22 thermal overload relay with the more robust LS MT-32 model.
The upgrade was performed on a heavy-duty control cabinet managing high-torque mechanical equipment, including 7.5 HP (C1) and 10 HP (LC2) motor circuits. For EKG M&E, ensuring these systems remain online is vital for operational efficiency and equipment longevity.
Contactor Compatibility: The new LS MT-32 was seamlessly integrated with the existing LS GMC-18 magnetic contactor. This pairing ensures a secure electrical connection and reliable switching performance within the existing cabinet footprint.
Precision Calibration: Accuracy is non-negotiable. Using a digital clamp meter, our technicians recorded a live operational current of 12.49 A. This real-world data allowed for the precise calibration of the MT-32 dial, ensuring the motor is protected against subtle overcurrent conditions while avoiding the "nuisance tripping" that can disrupt productivity.
The shift to the MT-32 provides improved reliability and faster response times to phase loss and thermal overload. For the heavy-duty motors found in industrial ACMV and mechanical systems—specifically the 10 HP units serviced in this project—this level of protection is the first line of defense against costly motor burnouts.
At EKG M&E Sdn Bhd, we don’t just replace parts; we optimize systems. By combining high-quality components like LS Electric with meticulous field testing and current verification, we ensure your mechanical assets are built to last.
